Newport Beach, CA – Dr. Andy Gerken is officially a candidate for Newport Beach City Council District 6 after officially completing the City's nomination process and having been formally certified by the Newport Beach City Clerk's office on August 7, 2026.

The City Clerk's office verified that Gerken submitted all the necessary nomination paperwork, and that he is a qualified candidate for the November 3, 2026 General Municipal Election.

With his candidacy certified, Gerken's campaign is focusing on getting ready for the November election, and is appealing to voters throughout the city.

“I am honored to officially be qualified to run and thankful towards our residents for their support and trust placed in our campaign ," said Dr. Andy Gerken. “Running in this race is a chance for me to connect with more of our neighbors and demonstrate that I can lead with common sense and accountability when addressing the needs we face together as a city. I look forward to every conversation in the coming months and earning every vote.”

Gerken, the city's longtime resident and physician, proposes to champion protecting Newport Beach's quality of life, providing strong police and fire protection, making City Hall more transparent and accountable, and putting residents' concerns ahead of special interests. His plans include opposing the development of a police station and jail in Civic Center Park, maintaining the open spaces in Newport Beach, providing more citizen oversight of city spending, and achievable actions that put resident needs ahead of damaging special interest priorities.

“As a physician, I know that every successful outcome comes by listening. I intend to bring the same approach to City Hall; listening to each and every resident, collaborating, and making decisions that will ensure the character and future of Newport Beach remains,” said Gerken.

The seat will be up for grabs through the November 3 election and will determine the next 4-year term of District 6.

“August 7 marked an important milestone but the campaign continues our hard work, " Gerken said. “Now is the time for us to engage our neighbors directly and create a movement for the future of our community, beginning with District 6 and throughout all of Newport Beach!”

Dr. Andy Gerken is a long-time resident of Newport Beach, a Harvard graduate, proud father of 3, physician, and a Newport Beach City Council candidate. He's on a mission to pave a path for community-focused leadership to ensure the City is led by common-sense policies.
