I'm running for Newport Beach City Council!
After speaking with hundreds of residents across Newport Beach, Dr. Gerken believes the city is approaching a turning point. Many residents feel increasingly disconnected from City Hall and frustrated by decisions that appear financially irresponsible or disconnected from neighborhood concerns.
One of the most significant examples is the proposed relocation of the police station and jail into Civic Center Park. Dr. Gerken believes this proposal reflects misplaced priorities and unnecessary financial risk at a time when residents want greater investment in core services, neighborhood safety, and infrastructure.
Residents have also expressed growing concern regarding traffic congestion, airport noise impacts, overdevelopment, and the approval of projects that threaten the character and livability of Newport Beach neighborhoods. Dr. Gerken believes these concerns deserve serious attention — not dismissive politics.
As a physician, Dr. Gerken has spent his career listening carefully, evaluating facts, and making decisions that prioritize people's well-being.
He intends to bring the same thoughtful and disciplined approach to city government.
